☕ Book Break ☕ |All’s Fair in Love and Christmas by Sarah Monzon

All’s Fair in Love and Christmas by Sarah Monzon

This was easy-to-read story told in alternating points of view, Mackenzie Graham, graphic designer, and her co-worker, Jeremy Fletcher. The romance evolves from a little workplace competition instigated by their boss.

As the story unfolds, more and more about the character’s motivations to win this work competition for a promotion is revealed. I didn’t know who to root for! Mackenzie’s mother has Alzheimer’s and Jeremy has his own family responsibilities. They both need the promotion.

I appreciated the way that Sarah tackled the issue of social anxiety, showing Mackenzie’s struggle and how she deals with some of the false assumptions that are prevalent in the Christian community about how to handle anxiety.

The supporting characters are introduced in a way that helps to fill in the background and support the characters by helping them grow. Although the cast is large, because they are introduced the way they are, it was not overwhelming. I had no trouble keeping the somewhat large cast sorted.

Both of the main characters were challenged to change and grow in a way that had me pulling for both of them. I wanted to see who would win and how the other person would react, if one of them would sacrifice for the other, and how they would resolve their competition, especially since they were very attracted to each other from the beginning.

I think inspirational fiction readers will love this book.

☕ Book Break ☕ | Dear Henry, Love Edith by Becca Kinzer

Oh, this novel was super cute. Funny and sweet. A great contemporary. A light read. Lots of miscommunication and misunderstandings. Humorous. A sweet love story.

One of the characters was a bit over eager with the EpiPen but I found that amusing.

Cute
Fun Characters
Snappy Dialogue
Lots of Sitcom Moments
Sweet Romance

At times the fact that they never met face-to-face though they were living in the same house stretched believability a bit, but it was such a fun ride, I was happy to go along with it. Just a really fun read. Grab this one if you’re looking for something light. The heroine did have to make some life-changing decisions, so there were a few serious moments and character growth.
Recommended.

☕ Book Break ☕ | Blind Dates, Bridesmaids, and Other Disasters by Aspen Hadley

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Blind Dates Bridesmaids and Other Disasters. It’s funny and fun to read, but had a few tear-jerking type moments as well. The writing was great.

Our heroine is twenty-seven years old, is a second grade school teacher, and shares an apartment with two other women friends. One of her roommates is planning her wedding, and this catapults Rachel into a dating frenzy. She’s been gun shy after a breakup that happened seven years ago and it’s time to move on.

The series of blind dates was hilarious and the predicaments Rachel got herself into echo the experiences I think we have all had. The difference being Rachel managed to get stuck on bad date repeat.

The relationships between the women were well done, the second chance romance sweet. The cast was large but didn’t feel cluttered.

All in all, and enjoyable, laugh out loud read.

A solid, second chance romcom with lots of five star moments.

☕ Book Break ☕ |~Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber~

~Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber~

“Christmas is a condition of the heart.”

Merry’s loving, but meddling, family sign her up for an online dating service. They don’t post a photo of her. Merry’s boss, who she perceives as cold, comes across the dating profile. He doesn’t post his photo, either. Inevitably, the two strike up a conversation without knowing the true identity of the other and develop an online relationship. You know where it goes from there.

Classic, well done romcom of the best sort. Merry Knight is an adorable character, and her situation with her love interest is charming. As it turns out, Jayson Bright  is not really the bad sort he’s been pegged as. Both our hero and heroine have a complicated family life and issues to deal with. Good story line that kept me reading.

Every time I try to write about this one, I end up giving spoilers, so instead let me just say, if you like charming romcom with a Christmas theme you should get this book. Cute, warm, satisfying. An enjoyable holiday read.

This year I’ve discarded more Christmas books than I finished, but this is a good one.

Have you read any good Christmas books this season?
